Ballarat Hospice Care

A look back on our history

1974

Henk Batstra opens Henksan Printers on Creswick Road, Ballarat

Specialising in hand composition, letterpress, and offset printing, the company marks the beginning of the of the new business.

1976

In a stride forward for the rapidly growing business, Henksan Printers relocates to 61 Humffray St N, Ballarat.

Henk’s children, Sonya (7) and Stefan (4), become familiar faces around the print shop.

1993

We install a GTO 46 offset printing press for enhanced quality and versatility.

A Shinohara offset printing press is also added, expanding capabilities to print books, magazines, and brochures.

1998

Henksan Printers expands its services to include graphic design.

Our service offerings grew as we began supporting local companies with professional branding and design solutions.

2002

The office expands along with the business.

To accommodate the growing business, Henk purchases the adjacent building at 63 Humffray St, formerly the Spotless Fish Shop.

2008

Making moves into the digital marketing space.

The business further diversifies, incorporating website design and development.

2011

Henk retires, passing the torch to Stefan, who rebrands the business as 61 Design.

Henk’s retirement is celebrated with a surprise party at Racers Bar and Cafe at Lake Wendouree.

2015

We incorporate our first digital print press.

Enhancing our capabilities for short print runs, quicker turnarounds, and cost-effective variable designs.

2021

61 Design acquires 59 Humffray St North and completes renovations.

The new space provides a modern office environment, reflecting 61 Design’s ongoing expansion.

2024

A monumental milestone for our studio.

We celebrate 50 years of design, print, and digital innovation, reflecting on five decades of trusted community partnerships.

2026

Further growth and fresh perspectives.

We welcome some new designers to our studio and proudly rolled out our Fresh campaign, improving how we connect local brands.
